In 2006 a run-off analysis was conducted for the Lafnitz in the segment of the Styria castle area, because it was determined that Neudau would be severely affected in the event of flooding. Within the scope of flood protection planning, extensive hydraulic calculations became necessary due to the complicated aquatic situation (feeders, Mühlbach etc.). The complicated sub-ground conditions also had to be taken into consideration during the detailed project planning phase for flood protection measures. Approximately 2.8 km of dams and walls, as well as 2 non-return structures and regulators are required to adequately protect Neudau.
