After a three-year construction period, the new cargo center celebrated Grand Opening Ceremony in attendance of Jörg Leichtfried (Federal Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology), Andreas Matthä, (Chairman of the Board for ÖBB-Holding AG), Jozef Vasak (European Commission), Maria Vassilakou (Vice Mayor of Vienna), Karl Wilfing (State Commissioner for Transportation Lower Austria on behalf of Governor Erwin Pröll) and Alois Schedl (Board Director of ASFINAG).
The Department of Transportation and ÖBB are making an effort to strengthen Austria as a place to do business and are creating an additional high-performance terminal in the Eastern region. Amongst other things, this site concentration is a big advantage for decreasing the inner city train and handling traffic, as well as the inner city truck traffic.
